Sustainability at Schmitt Söhne Winery
Responsibility through Tradition – Quality from Our Region
As a family-run winery, Schmitt Söhne has stood for careful craftsmanship, regional origin, and respectful interaction with nature and people for generations. For us, sustainability means taking responsibility—today and for the generations to come. That’s why we consistently integrate ecological and resource-efficient measures into our daily operations.
Our wines are created in close cooperation with winemakers from our region. Short distances, long-term partnerships, and the careful use of the environment and resources are central to our philosophy. Every step—from the wine to the bottle—is thoughtfully planned and executed with great care.
We rely on modern, energy-saving technology to continuously reduce our ecological footprint:
- 100% green electricity in our administration and production facilities
- Electric forklifts instead of combustion-engine industrial trucks
- LED lighting in storage and work areas
- Motion sensors for demand-oriented lighting control
- Mindful logistics: ensuring fully loaded trucks are sent to their destinations
- Alternative packaging solutions to reduce CO₂ emissions (reusable bottles, bag-in-box, KeyKegs, and PET bottles)
Resource-conscious wine processing and careful use of water and materials are a natural part of our work. We continuously optimize our processes to avoid waste and use natural resources efficiently.
Our region is our heritage—and it shapes the identity of our wines.
We consciously focus on:
- Wines from regional cultivation
- Short transport distances
- Partnerships with local winemakers
By doing so, we not only strengthen regional value creation but also support sustainable, fair, and long-term relationships.
For us, sustainability is an ongoing process. That’s why we continuously strive to make further improvements—whether through new technologies, more efficient workflows, or additional sustainability projects. A connection to the planned local district heating network is being sought.
Our goal remains:
Authentic wine from responsible production—today and tomorrow.
