Ockfener Scharzberg Riesling Sekt trocken |
 | This extraordinary sparkling wine, known as “Sekt” in Germany, is produced from the finest fully ripened Riesling grapes grown in the Saar region. Made in the classic “methode Champenois” this wine has remained in the bottle receiving careful attention and daily turning, known as riddling, until the secondary fermentation is complete and the yeast has collected in the neck and can be removed. The result is a brut level dry sparkling wine with excellent fruit and a lively, crisp acidity.

Dornfelder Rotwein trocken |
 |
Germany´s red varietals are indeed a specialty. The predominate red varietal is Spätburgunder, known internationally as Pinot Noir. However there are numerous other varietals grown in smaller quantities. Schmitt Schenk grows and produces a varietal known as Dornfelder, which is a hearty, full bodied, velvety rich wine with a floral bouquet and excellent up front fruit. Complements a variety of meats including beef, lamb, veal and turkey.

Mosel Saar Ruwer Riesling Eiswein |
 | Eiswein is the crowning jewel of German viticulture. These wines are of Beerenauslese intensity and made from grapes that have remained on the vine until the first hard freeze of the year. The grapes must be harvested and pressed while frozen allowing the frozen water particles to wash away leaving only concentrated grape juice for the wine production. The result is a truly unique wine with an intense concentration of fruity acidity and sweetness.
These wines continue to evolve and change with prolonged bottle ageing and are dependent on optimum weather conditions for production. As a result they are not produced each vintage, but rather only in exceptional years.
