The Rhine wine area is a beautiful region of steep, terraced vineyards crowned with medieval castles and ruins. The clayish slate soil yields produce wines with lively acidity. Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Kerner grow best in these slopes. Rhine wines are mostly fresh, fragrant and show a fruity acidity.
